About Fitzgerald Insurance Agency, Inc.

Fitzgerald Insurance started in 1940 as a State Farm agency. Harold Fitzgerald left the farm to sell insurance through State Farm. He led State Farm in Crop Hail sales in1945 and then State Farm quit the hail business. He then found a little company to sell crop hail with called the Hartford Insurance Company. State Farm being captive let Harold go and the Hartford gave him the only General Agents contract south of route 36 in Illinois.

He built his business over the next 15 years and his son Jim was added to the agency in 1960. Together they grew and added companies specializing in farm and crop hail insurance, while writing all lines and selling real estate. Over the years Harold was a well known auctioneer selling farm land was his specialty.

It has been a family business since the start, Harold’s daughter Imogene worked for the agency for 30 years leaving to pursue a career in real estate. Jim’s wife Marilyn was part of the agency for about 30 years also. Harold retired after 30+ years in 1979.

In 1982 Jim and Marilyn’s son Mike came to work in the agency. The agency grew still specializing in crop insurance and farm business. Jim and Marilyn retired in 2006 selling the agency to Mike.

Fitzgerald Insurance still specializes in Crop Insurance and Farm business but sells all lines of property, casualty and life.
