The agency was founded in 1940 by Harold Fitzgerald.  Harold was a State Farm agent for 5 years and became the leading hail insurance salesman by 1945.  The next year State Farm discontinued Hail Coverage and Harold became the only Hartford general agent south of Route 36 in Illinois. 

In 1960 James Fitzgerald, Harold’s son, joined his father at the family business. It was a time of change and growth for the insurance business as Jim and Harold grew the business into a area leader in both farm and personal insurance. Imogene, Harold’s daughter, joined the agency as well and worked from 1967 to 1992.  Marilyn Fitzgerald, Jim’s wife, joined in 1975 and worked until they both retired in December of 2006.

Michael Fitzgerald, the current president of Fitzgerald Insurance, joined in the family business in 1982.  His wife Gina is an integral part of the business.

Sarah Fitzgerald, cousin to Mike, came on board in 2007 and is licensed in all lines of insurance.
